This is a couple months belated, so...sorry! Anyway, if you ever have a chance to visit Beijing, I highly recommend checking out Spice Mountain (or Fragrance Hill, depending on how you translate it). Of course, do check out the major tourist attractions first, like the Great Wall, The Summer Palace, the Forbidden City. All I'm saying is that, if you have seen all of the biggies, then it's time to swing by Spice Mountain.
Fall is the best time to go. Not just Fall, but for only a couple weeks in October-ish. That's when all of the leaves turn red and it's supposed to be gorgeous. The whole mountain is red. Uuuunnnnfortunately, we seemed to have missed it by a couple weeks. Nevertheless, it was still quite nice. You can still see some red and gold in there.
By the way, if you go to Spice Mountain at the best time of year, about a million other people will join you. In China, there's a saying, 人山人海 (people mountain people sea): You'll definitely feel that as you head to the mountain (see pics below). Due to traffic and long lines, it took us about two and a half hours to get there.
That brings me to my last point...make sure you go with people that you like! You'll be with them for a while, but with the right people, it can be a blast. My verdict? Definitely go!
